Combining traditional talk therapy and non-verbal communication techniques creates a highly effective approach to counseling.

Using art in therapy :
* Works around verbal defense mechanisms and intellectualizing that can stall the therapeutic progress.
* Lets the individual express feelings and thoughts they do not know how to put into words, or are physically unable.
* Can facilitate the improvement of cognitive function, memory and kinetic skills.
* Provides a safe way to communication feelings, thoughts and experiences the individual deems too frightening or taboo to verbalize.
* Allows the individual to safely discover new or repressed emotions they were not aware they had.

Sliding scale available; please call for fee info. I am also a MINES EAP and PPO managed care provider.

* Client-centered talk therapy and deep listening provides a safe empathic space that promotes a trusting client/therapist alliance. Client and therapist work together to find solutions, encourage personal growth and improve quality of life.

* If the client chooses to work with non-verbal communication, then counselor directed art psychotherapy works to facilitate a deeper understanding of present life circumstances, promotes deep healing and encourages greater client self awareness and self actualization.

About me: I received my MA in Counseling and Art Psychotherapy from Southwestern College in Santa Fe NM where I also received training in somatic therapies and group dynamics. I am also a Tai Chi instructor.

Prior to Santa Fe, I created and ran art therapy programs for at risk teens in the San Luis Valley of Colorado.

While in Santa Fe I worked extensively with the brain injury community through their support group. I also worked with adults in transition.

After relocating to the Roaring Fork Valley, while continuing my work with adults, I was privileged to spend time at the Youth Recover Center at Valley View Hospital where I created an art psychotherapy program designed to enhance their existing counseling model.

I am a member of the American Art Therapy Association (AATA), national and Colorado chapters, and the Brain Injury Association USA (BIAUSA).
